Even a rainy night couldn't dampen this win. Union dominated Eastside 24-0 on Friday night in a rain storm at Union County Stadium.

"We're excited to get this win," said Union coach Tommy Bobo. "It was kind of an adverse situation. The kids came out and played well. No matter whether the sun is shinning or it's raining - a win's a win and our kids are excited."

Union (2-5, 2-0) scored on its first drive of the game. Rodrick Gilmore caught a 38-yard pass from Cameron Willis to help set up a 9-yard touchdown run by Kendrick Neal. David Gregory, returning from an ankle injury last week, kicked the extra point and the Yellow Jackets led 7-0.

Early in the second quarter, Union struck again. Long runs by Pip Smith, Troy Epps and Kierre Smith set up LJ Mobley's 7-yard touchdown catch from Willis. Gregory again added the point after.

After an interception by Billy Jennings. Smith caught a pass for 13 yards to set up his 1-yard touchdown run. Gregory's extra point again was true. Union led 21-0

Jennings immediately intercepted another Eagles' pass. Dontee Stewart caught a 17-yard pass and a rouging the passer call against Eastside helped set up a 34-yard Gregory field goal.

The Eagles (1-6, 0-2) best chance to score came just before the half.

Eastside recovered a Willis fumble deep in Jacket territory. JJ Hughes immediately got an interception for Union, only to fumble the ball back to Eastside at the Jacket 1-yard line with 11 seconds left. Union's defense tackled Seth Cruell for a 3-yard loss and Union led 24-0 at halftime, which was shortened due to the rain.

Union played cautious with the lead in the second half, not throwing a pass and just grinding the ball on the ground and eating the clock. Substitutes gave starters a rest late in the game, but the defense preserved the shutout. A fourth quarter highlight was a fumbled punt recovered by Matt Abee.

Union travels to Riverside next week.

Note: Rodrick Gilmore went out with a shoulder injury.
